The food market has been flooded by numerous foods which are mainly versions of products which have been known for a long time, but with new advertising slogans based on marginal developments in scientific progress. For example, there are a great number of omega fatty acid products on the market which can hardly be distinguished from each other.
New products with proven health benefits are extremely rare. This is on the one hand due to the problem of attributing the desired effect to one product or even one ingredient, and on the other hand to the difficulty of obtaining the clinical proof of a prophylactic effect. Additionally, important links were for a long time grossly underestimated – especially the bioavailability of food components or supplements.
